Every day, as I’m selecting shoes to show you here on Shoeperwoman, I always run into the same problem: there are far more shoes than there is time to tell you about them – or at least, not if I give them all their own, individual posts, that is.
To get around that, and be able to bring you even more beautiful shoes every day, I’ve decided to start posting some daily galleries of some of the shoes I wanted to write about, but didn’t quite have time for. I’m starting off today with Miss Selfridge’s “new in” section: and while I know you’ll all expect me to be lusting over the green “Sassy” platforms (and you’d be right!), I also really love both the bow-sided ‘Savannah’ and the coral patent ‘Strutt’.
Take a look at the gallery and tell me which is your favourite! (And if you want to buy any of them, you’ll find them all here.)
Dolly leopard print bow ballet flats, £20, Miss Selfridge
Teal and mustard are the quintessential winter colours, as far as I’m concerned: there’s something about them that just screams “winter” to me. Now, I don’t like winter (I may have mentioned this), so shoes which scream its name would normally be a big no-no. I DO love both of these colours, though, so they get a pass for me: the yellow pair would be the perfect splash of colour on a dreary day, while the teal pair are a little more restrained, and probably more wearable as a result.

It looks like the trend for embellished heels has most definitely filtered its way down to the high street: just take a look at these!
These are from Miss Selfridge, and are £85, which is a little more expensive than we’ve come to expect from this brand, but understandable given the amount of embellishment on the heels. I see crystals, silver studs, black jewels… a LOT of bling, basically. These are definitely not your everyday wedges, for that very reason: I’m assuming the various pieces of flair are all securely attached, but you’re not going to want to risk dislodging them by trudging around the streets in them every day. For a special occasion, though, they’re definitely a special shoe, and the front is demure enough to balance out the heels rather nicely.
Heel-lover that I am, for a pair of flats to catch my attention, they have to have some kind of stand-out detail to them: like a giant, sparkly brooch on the toe, say. And maybe a bow, too, for good measure.
OK, that’s not strictly true: I’m a huge fan of the simple ballet flat, and the simpler the better: think Audrey Hepburn, in a pair of black capris, and totally plain flats. Embellishments have their place too, however, and I think these ‘Dazzle’ flats from Miss Selfridge would make a really nice dress shoe for those of you who don’t wear heels. These are £29, which is more than I typically pay for flats (New Look is my go-to in this department: theirs rarely cost more than £10!), but I think these could be worth making an exception for, because they have so much to recommend them, from the pewter upppers to that bejewelled bow. And while I stand by my initial “dress shoe” assessment, I also think they could look cute with a pair of jeans.

The fact that these are just simple, classic court shoes should mean that there’s really nothing about them worth writing home about. I beg to differ, however: I think that gorgeous blue upper really IS worth talking about, and while we’re on the subject, how about the gold and pink versions, too? All three of these pretty much jumped off the page at me, despite their non-remarkable shapes, and they’re the kind of shoes I can imagine owning for years, and wearing non-stop, to the point where the cost-per-wear of the £40 investment would be down to mere pennies. (Well OK, maybe not the glitter versions: I’d find those harder to get the use out of, but I’d definitely give it my best shot!)
These are actually available in a range of other, more toned-down colours, too: there’s a black suede, and a couple of shades of brown, so if you’re looking for something a little more classic – or just like the idea of owning the same shoe in multiple colours (Not that I’d ever advocate doing such a thing, of course. Ahem.) – these could be worth a look. Click here to take your pick.
I’ve featured lots of different ballet flats over the years, but I think these ones from Miss Selfridge have to be one of the more literal interpretations of the look. They combine a pink, suede-effect upper with a ribbon tie, designed to be criss-crossed around the ankles, ballerina style. These are super-sweet, and really appeal to the part of me which still wants to be a dancer when she grows up (Probably shouldn’t have given up those ballet classes then, huh, Shoeperwoman? Now you will never dance Swan Lake!), although I have a feeling that wearing them may result in a few too many people asking you if you’re on your way to dance class.
To avoid those questions, you can simply wear these with jeans or something similarly casual. Me, I’d be much too tempted to wear them with a a wrapover cardigan, a pair of black skinny jeans and my hair in a bun…

I’ve always been a little bit wary of white stilettos. I like them. Or some of them, anyway. I even really like some of them. But having been a child in the 80s, I can still remember the ways in which the white stiletto was abused during that time, and how it came to be regarded as a huge fashion “don’t” for a lot of people, and I think some of the “white stiletto = tacky” message must have stuck in my mind, unwittingly, because I don’t own a single pair of white court shoes, even although their association with the Essex girls of the 80s is long gone.
This particular white court shoe, of course, is nothing like its predecessors. Yes, it has the pointed toe and the stiletto heel , but somehow that little black bow makes all the difference, and the effect is rather demure and ladylike. I love it, and think these shoes would be an excellent buy for summer: as well as looking good with dresses and skirts (and working with pretty much any colour or print), the monochrome colourway would also make these look good with something like black jeans and a blazer.

These shoes have me briefly (only briefly, though, mind) wishing I still worked in an office: wouldn’t they look fabulous with a black pencil skirt or dress, a smart handbag and a little jacket? Of course, there’s nothing stopping me going for that work-wear kinda look if I want to, but luckily I think these shoes will translate well to other looks, too. The tan suede and black patent leather is such an elegant combination, and I can just as easily see these with black jeans, wide leg trousers or a whole host of other combinations.
