A Valentino-esque bow with an almost Tiffany-blue upper? Well, I don’t mind if I do…
These shoes scream “Easter” to me, and, more specifically, “Easter eggs”. I guess that’s possibly a bit of an odd connection, but something about the colour and the bows really reminds me of chocolate eggs… and now I REALLY want some chocolate eggs, so let’s move on from that idea, shall we?
We don’t really celebrate Easter in our house (other than with the eating of vast quantities of chocolate, that is. Whoops, so much for not talking about it!) so there’s not much call to get dressed up for it. That’s never stopped me before, however, and I can see these shoes as part of the perfect Easter outfit: they’d look fabulous with most pastels, and have a very “ladylike” feel about them, which would make me want to add a cute little hat and maybe some gloves, too. Over the top? Maybe. But awesome, all the same…
These are also available in black, but really, where’s the fun in that?
As usual with these Shoe Deja Vus, it’s the idea of the shoe that’s similar, rather than the execution: the Charles David shoes have a cork wedge rather than a leather one, a full heel rather than a slingback, and pink trim rather than gold. It’s all of these details, however, which, when seen side-by-side with their older sisters, makes the Carvela shoes look so much better to me, and as there’s not a huge difference in the price (the Charles David shoes are $174.99 at Heels.com, while the Carvelas are down to £120 (about $189) at Sarenza), those are the ones I’d probably go for.
I hope those of you who’ve had some time off have been having a wonderful holiday. I know not many of you will be online this week, so rather than post new shoes which you might miss, I’m using the time to take a look back at some of the best shoes of the year just gone instead.
Last week I rounded up the best shoes from my favourite designer brand, Christian Louboutin, so today I thought I’d show you some shoes from my favourite high street brand, Kurt Geiger.
The images in the gallery below encompass shoes from the Kurt Geiger, Miss KG and Carvela lines, and I’m actually a little embarrassed to see how many of these I seem to have acquired over the course of the year: whoops! You’ll find all of the original posts in the Kurt Geiger and Carvela archives, but if you’re looking to buy, do bear in mind that these are shoes from the entire year (and sometimes beyond), so not all will still be in stock!
Ever since I got my beautiful blue suede peep toes this summer, I’ve been on the lookout for a pair of closed-toe pumps in the same colour, so I can carry my love of cobalt right through the winter. And now I think I’ve found them.
These shoes are by Carvela, they’re called ‘Amelia’, and, to be perfectly honest with you, there’s not a whole lot to say about them, other than that they’re gorgeous. For such a simple shoe, though, they certainly pack a lot of punch, and it’s all thanks to that amazing colour. This will definitely be the Colour of the Year for me: I just can’t seem to get enough of it!
These are £120 at Viva la Diva: click here to buy them.
I’m sure you all remember Carvela’s ‘Glam’ platforms: not just because I showed you them just a few weeks ago, but because they’re definitely one of the more memorable of this year’s shoes, what with those sequinned uppers and shiny gold platforms!
if you do remember ‘Glam’, then I’m sure you’ll have instantly recognised the “inspiration” behind Chockers’ very similar ‘Dorothy’ platforms. These also have the sequins, the bow and the platform, but they come in a little cheaper at £35.
What do you think? Does the lower price make you more likely to try them? Does the copycat design bother you at all?
Did anyone watch the launch of the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother last night?
I haven’t watched the show for years, but I do like to tune in for the launch shows – partly out of curiosity, and partly just to see what everyone’s wearing! (And, OK, this year it was partly because I knew Twitter would become obsessed with it, and I figured I may as well know what everyone’s talking about for a change!).
For me, by far the most interesting moment was the entrance of Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff, wearing the Carvela ‘Glam’ platforms I showed you a couple of weeks ago:
I have no idea who would wear these shoes, or, indeed, how they’d wear them, but if you’d be happy to give it a try:
1. You have my utmost respect.
2. Please would you join my Shoe Challenge? I think the world needs to see the photos of these shoes in action, and the outfit that would accompany them!
Until that happens, however, we’ll just have to content ourselves with the product shots:
WHOA. Sorry, these seem to have rendered me even less articulate than I usually am. I mean, they’re like the footwear equivalent of a disco ball, aren’t they?
Would you wear these? What would you wear with them? Do tell…
(Oh, and if you want to buy them first, click here to get them from Sarenza, where they’re £116.28)
I’ve been admiring Giuseppe Zanotti’s high platform wedges from afar for many months now, but it seems that finally the UK high street has decided I could at last have the opportunity to own something similar. River Island’s black glitter wedges may not be in quite the same league as the Zanottis, but that super-high platform is very similar, and these have glitter all over the platform too, if that’s the kind of thing that floats your boat. Oh, and they’re much cheaper, too, at just £70.
While we’re on the subject of GZ lookie-likies, Monica wrote to me last week to draw my attention to Carvela’s ‘Grass’ wedges:
These also have the vertiginous platform, but come with a red suede upper, and a £140 price tag.
What does everyone think of these? As much as I love the extreme shape, I think I’d probably have a hard time working them into my wardrobe (and my Shoe Challenge!). What would you wear with them?
