Nicholas Kirkwood Scribble-Flower Colorblock Sandal

These are the kind of shoes I always think of as “Runway Footwear”: i.e., they’re the kind of shoes that look amazing on the runway, or as part of a fashion editorial, but which I’m always a little surprised to see actually go into production, because as fabulous as they are, they’re probably the kind of thing that are destined to generate a “love or hate” kind of response.

Designed to look like a colourblock sandal with a flower scribbled over the sides, these are   very creative, and amazing to look at. Would you wear them, though? And, more to the point, would you pay $1,250 for them?

Nicholas Kirkwood pink and white ‘leaf’ pumps

As with Charlotte Olympia, Nicholas Kirkwood’s trademark style of platform tends to divide people, with most either loving or hating it. I’m firmly in the “love” camp, as I am with most of Kirkwood’s designs, and I really like the sweet, summer style of these pink and white “leaf pumps”, which are currently available to pre-order at Nordstrom.

These are £664, so they’re very much out of my budget, but they’ve got me dreaming of summer, and all the things I’d wear them with. These are actually two shoe colours I probably wouldn’t buy if the shoes were just one or the other, but together they’re just about perfect, with the white toning down the bright pink, and the pink livening up the basic white.

You know how bloggers are always saying things like, “I spat coffee over my keyboard when I seen it!” or “I let out a little scream at the sight of them!” and you know they didn’t REALLY do those things, they’re just saying it for dramatic effect?

This isn’t one of those times. I actually DID let out a gasp and an “OMG” when I came across these Nicholas Kirkwood sandals. Luckily the dog was the only person (shut up, he is too a person!) in the room at the time, and he’s used to me talking to myself, so I think I got away with it.

I feel like gasping again every time I look at them, though. I mean, don’t you? I want to look at them all day, then I want to sit up late and look at them some more. And I want to buy them in every colour, even the multicoloured snakeprint, which I’d normally hate.

These aren’t available to buy yet, but that’s probably a good thing, given how much they’ll cost…

Nicholas Kirkwood 130MM suede and laminated calfskin pumps

I’ve had these shoes on my “to be blogged” list for a couple of weeks ago, and I seem to have developed a strange kind of writer’s block about them, because every time I’ve tried to write about them, I’ve sat staring at the blank page for a couple of minutes and then moved on to something else. I’ve no idea why this would be the case, because there’s really so much to be said about these shoes, isn’t there? OK, let’s do it as a bulleted list, then. That always helps break a block.

  • The colour: plum suede = absolutely gorgeous
  • The suede/laminate mix: I often think suede is at its best when it’s combined with another fabric. Patent leather works well, but so does this laminated finish.
  • The shape: so Nicholas Kirkwood, non?
  • The tassels:

Perhaps this is the reason for my block, actually, because it’s a very brogue-like look, and, well, you all know how I feel about that, I won’t repeat myself.

Nicholas Kirkwood glitter criss-cross sandals

Glitter: it never goes away, does it? This time it’s been added to a pair of sandals by He Can Can Do No Very Little Wrong, Nicholas Kirkwood, and the contrast between matt-black heel and glitter upper makes it a little less in-your-face than some glitter shoes. Mind you, I’ve been rather obsessed with all that glitters recently, so I’m very easily swayed by the sparkly stuff at the moment. If you are too, these are £595 and you can click here to buy them from Harvey Nichols.

Nicholas Kirkwood pink patent slingback peep toes

nicholas kirkwood pink parent shoes Nicholas Kirkwood pink patent slingback peep toesOh, that Nicholas Kirkwood platform! You either love it or you don’t, and there doesn’t seem to be much room for middle ground. I’m in the “love” camp where all things (or at least most things) Kirkwood are concerned, and think the angular, stylized shape of these shoes makes them extra special, although this particular shade of bright pink is always going to get my attention anyway, regardless of the shoe it’s attached to.

Here’s another view for you:

Nicholas Kirkwood red patent d’orsay pumps

These shoes are very different from the Nicholas Kirkwood style we’ve become used to, which generally features a huge, sculptural platform attached to a futuristic looking upper. In contrast, these red d’orsay pumps have a retro, eighties kind of feel to them, but while the 80s definitely isn’t my favourite style decade, I really like the sweet little vamp on these shoes:

It goes without saying that the red colour is always a winner as far as I’m concerned, too.

Sarah Jessica Parker can always be relied on to bring some seriously attention-grabbing shoes to the party, can’t she? In this case, the “party” was the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and the shoes were these blue leather n’ lace Nicholas Kirkwood platforms, which SJP paired with a black dress, allowing everyone’s attention to go straight to her feet:
