Modcloth call these the ‘Zeal of Approval’ heels, but from what I can gather from the brand name on the insole, they’re actually by Qupid. (Tangent: I love Modcloth’s quirky product names, but sometimes wish they’d make the original brand name a little clearer, if only to help out us bloggers!)

Whatever you want to call them, however, these are cute little shoes, at a bargain price. Taking the classic Mary Jane shape, and adding a triple-layered bow on the heel, and a sculpted shape to the sides, they’re much nicer than I’d expect for a pair of $40 pumps, and that’s without even mentioning the colour. About that: I’m not quite sure how to describe this one, but I think I’m going to go for “duck egg blue”, as that’s what it looks like on my monitor, although I suspect they could look mint green in some lights, too. Its’ a lovely shade either way: not too sugary, but not too dark either, making it a nice, transitional shade which will work well in both the tail end of summer and the coming autumn.

These shoes have something of a retro vibe to them, so I stuck with Modcloth when it came to styling them, and here’s what I came up with:

retro inspired outfit

Polka dot dress with Mary Jane heels:

Closet dress   ♥ Retro bird ring   ♥  Kate Spade watch

Rather than attempting to find a dress to match the somewhat unusual colour of these shoes, I’ve gone from one which is different enough to provide contrast, but similar enough not to clash. This dress is by Closet, and is a style the brand releases often: this teal and white polka dot fabric is a particularly nice one, and works well with the colour of the shoes.

  • They look mint green to me, which is just as appealing as duck egg blue! I don’t like the side view, but the view from above makes me appreciate them a lot more.

  • I love the color and the heel bow! I’m a little iffy about the Mary-Jane strap WITH the bow though (which is unusual for me because normally I love the extra sense of security). It seems to me like the strap is a little out of place for the silhouette of the pump. Maybe I’d have to try it on to make my final decision. (And I DO like that price!)

Also, I have a gorgeous plain green sleeveless version of the Closet dress shown. It’s a very flattering dress! I just adore the way it drapes.
