It’s still only November, but already I feel like I’ve typed the words “crystal heel” and “platform sandals” a few too many times lately. Oh well, what can you do? I think it’s fair to say that this season has a particular footwear “theme” (especially when it comes to party shoes), and that theme involves chunky platform soles with elaborately embellished heels. Well, no complaints from me: I really like the sot grey colour of these sandals, and after a few seasons of lower heels, I’m more than ready to start taking a “the bigger, the better approach” again.
Shoes aren’t the only thing to have caught my attention at Miss Selfridge lately, though. I also love this dress:
Jacquard is a favourite fabric of mine for eveningwear (and sometimes for day, too, let’s be honest), and it works particularly well with prom-style dresses. Not only is there a certain opulence to the fabric, it also helps give a skirt volume without the need for a petticoat, AND it doesn’t crease too easily, which is always a bonus.
I also love this one, for similar reasons:
Although the shiny fabric of the first dress marks it out for as what I think of as a “dressy dress”, I think the colours of this one could also work for daytime: it’ll never be totally causal, obviously, but it could work as well with tights, boots and a cardi as it does with the strappy sandals shown here.
Finally, and sticking with the jacquard theme, this skirt is the kind of thing that I can easily see becoming something of a wardrobe workhorse:
Again, this is reasonably dressy, but not so much that you won’t be able to dress it down with tights and boots, if required: gotta love a skirt that does double duty!
