McQ Alexander McQueen black and red ‘flame’ pumps

Alexander McQueen flame pumps

The flame motif continues to infiltrate the footwear world, but whereas Prada looked to the 50s for inspiration for their recent flame sandals, these McQ Alexander McQueen pumps have a decidedly 80s feel to them, with their red and black uppers and pointed toes. That makes me like them a little less than some of the other flame-inspired footwear I’ve been showing you recently – the 80s just isn’t my decade! – but there’s no denying that these definitely bring the drama to the shoe party, and I have to admire them for that.

This is, of course, yet another variation on the classic, pointed toe pump, and it’s interesting to see what a difference the print can make to a shoe like this: in a plain colour, these would look very “safe”, but in this one, it’s a different look altogether.

What do you think of them?

  • I knew you were going to feature them ever since I saw them on net-a-porter a couple of weeks ago! I still havent decided how I feel about them, though I might like the flats version.
