Heroes or Villains? “Slipper” shoes

The “slippers-as-shoes” look has been around for a while now, and I have to admit, I’m no closer to understanding it. Of course, to be fair, these aren’t actual slippers: they’re designed to be worn as shoes, so the sole and upper will be more hard-wearing that the bedroom slippers they resemble – or, at least, I would hope so for $150!

The fact remains, though, they look like slippers: and not just that, they look like old man slippers, too. Alexa Chung, or some other painfully-fashionable person may well be able to get away with them, but I definitely wouldn’t, and I can’t help think that if I tried, I’d just end up explaining over and over again that no, I didn’t forget to put my shoes on before I left the house, these ARE my shoes.

What do you think of this style? Are they heroes or are they shoepervillains?

(If you’re in the first camp, they’re by Charles Philip, and you can click here to buy them at Shopbop.)

  • Heroes, in the right fabric, and with the right sole. I have ASOS sequin covered ones in black and they’re so comfy but also not too slippery (no satin trim or anything) and once on just look like sparkly flats. I also love the Topshop studded ones.

  • Chop those tassels off and I’d wear them in a heartbeat. I think it’s the color and thin fabric that differentiates it from most sets of house shoes.

  • I love slipper shoes with a passion! I dont think of them as old man shoes, I see them as Lord of the Manor shoes 😛
I have the Kosy pair from Topshop and they are the most comfortable flats I own as most of them are way too flat for me to walk in. I didn’t buy them the first time I saw them and then they sold out but I found them in a big Topshop and bought them 🙂 they came on holiday with me
it was really hard deciding between the tasselly and non tassely pairs xoxo
