These shoes appeared on the Net-a-Porter website earlier this week, and instantly grabbed my attention, although for the print, rather than for the shape.
The shape, after all, is nothing we haven’t seen a million times before (it feels like it, anyway!) at this point: it’s a pointed pump with a stiletto heel, and while it’s a great shape, and one that I personally can’t get enough of at the moment, it’s totally relying on the upper to give it that extra little something. And it DOES, doesn’t it? Like florals, I tend to think of butterfly prints as strictly summer fashion, but as you can see, it all depends on the colour scheme. The muted browns, creams, and yellows on this shoe combine to make for a very autumn-appropriate effect, and a very unusual one, too. I can’t claim to LOVE it, but it’s definitely different, and I’ll be interested to hear everyone’s else’s opinion on this one.
As these shoes have such an autumnal feel, I’ve styled them up in a cool-weather kinda way, using a colour scheme I wear fairly often at this time of year:
♥ River Island leather-look pencil skirt ♥ MIH Jeans fisherman sweater ♥ Michael Kors tote bag ♥ New Look faux fur scarf ♥ Stella McCartney sunglasses
The all-neutral look isn’t always the easiest to pull off, but I love this lighter, brighter counterpoint to the darkest months of the year, and as long as you keep the fabrics and textures season appropriate (I’ve used a mix of leather – or faux-leather – wool and faux fur in this ensemble), it’s perfectly acceptable to continue wearing pale colours regardless of the season.
SO pretty!
All the brown and yellow shades make them look like moths instead of butterflies, so I just can’t like them. Moths gross me out.
