THE SHOES: Dune ‘Briella’ pointed flats with brooch toe, £60
I showed you Dune’s ‘Breanna’ high heel pumps back in August, and now here’s ‘Briella’ – the flat version!
This is a style that’s obviously been doing well for Dune, because they’re released a few different variations on it over the past year or so. The pointed toe and oversized square brooch always reminds me of the famous ‘Hangisi’ pumps by Manolo Blahnik, but – although it’s almost sacrilegious to say it – I much prefer the Dune version. The shorter toe and higher heel just gives the shape a more modern feel, and while these shoes will never be what you’d call “cutting edge”, exactly, they’re certainly beautiful, and would make wonderful wedding shoes, for the bride on a non-Manolo budget.
The flat version is no less gorgeous. We’ve seen some fabulous flats lately from the UK high street: the pointed toes that are currently in fashion make or a much more elegant shape than the rounded versions, which is perhaps why they seem to lend themselves more to evening-appropriate styles. These ones come in both black suede and this shimmery gold metallic, and while they’re both nice shoes, the gold ones are that bit dressier, which makes them my pick.
The Style: Skirt // Top // Bag // Bracelet
Although I’ve styled these with a tulle skirt and sparkly clutch, the beauty of fancy flats is that they can really work with almost anything. These could just as easily be worn with a simple pair of black trousers or jeans: they’re eye catching, but the lack of a heel makes them easier to dress down, allowing you to get the maximum amount of wear out of them, rather than having to save them for special occasions.
