A pair of pink high heels

RAVEL WAS MY FIRST SHOE LOVE.

I remember catching the train into Edinburgh with my best friend, and wandering around the store, picking up shoes we didn’t think we’d ever be able to own – because when you’re 15, and right at the start of a shoe obsession, Ravel seems like Christian Louboutin or Chanel. Then, at university, saving up my money to buy a pair of strappy sandals, which I then proceeded to wear until they quite literally fell apart: at which point I held onto them for a few more years, because I couldn’t bring myself to throw them out.

(Luckily – or perhaps unluckily, depending on your point of view – the shoes may be long gone, but they’ve been immortalised forever in my graduation photo, which my parents insist on having on full view, despite the fact that I was every bit as confused and hungover as I looked, following one hell of a graduation ball the night before. And yes, I wore those shoes to THAT, too…)

Because of this, I think I’ll always have a soft spot for Ravel, even although they’re no longer a brand I consider to be a particular favourite. Nostalgia can be powerful, though, so while these days O probably wouldn’t buy the pink high heels at the top of the page, I know my student self would’ve been absolutely crazy about them, and would’ve considered herself the luckiest girl alive if she’d owned a pair: which, knowing her, she’d have worn to Friday night clubs, AND Monday morning lectures.

These are just one of a selection of Ravel shoes currently available at Spartoo, which is one of the few places you can still find the brand, since they closed down their stores a few years ago. Ravel, we’ll always miss you – but at least we know you live on!
