Dune ‘BigTime’ striped stiletto pumps

Dune Bigtime, £85

Dune have really been a roll lately with their stripe-tastic shoes (Why, yes, I DID just use the word “stripe-tastic. Forgive me.) I’ve shown you two pairs already this year, one of which I own myself, and now here’s a third pair, just in time for summer.

At the risk of being disloyal to my own Dune stripe pumps, I actually think these ones might be my favourites so far. That’s partly because of the perfect black, white and red colourway, which is just begging to be described as “nautical”, but it also has a lot to do with the asymmetric vamps, which I always think look so much nicer than a straight-cut vamp. The asymmetric cut is also a nice halfway-house between a very “sexy” low vamp and a demure high one: it shouldn’t show off TOO much toe cleavage (if any at all), but it shows a little more design flair than a high vamp, and gives you something a little more interesting to look down upon.

If I have one criticism of these, it’s that the effect of the lovely red heels is marred ever-so-slightly by the mis-matched stripe at the back of the shoe. It’s the kind of detail that probably won’t be too noticeable when you’re actually wearing them, but once it’s been seen, it’s hard to un-see, and if you’re a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to footwear, it might prove to be too much of a distraction.
