You’ll never guess where this dress is from…

H&M, people. It’s from good ol’ H&M, AND it’s only £40, too, which is why, when I saw it over at She Comes in Colors, I found myself wishing I’d come across it while there was still enough summer left to justify buying it.  I love the pretty, sky-blue colour, and the pin-dot print – and I even love the ruffled, off-shoulder detail, which has been very on-trend this season, and which has so far failed to appeal to me – until now, that is! Finally, I love the way this colour works with the tan accessories – such a classic, summery combination!

Alas, I wasn’t able to find this particular dress on H&M’s UK website, so, just in case you can’t find it in-store, either, here are some alternatives to try:

Topshop blue off-the-shoulder poplin dress

Topshop blue off-the-shoulder poplin dress

This Topshop number is minus the ruffle, so it’s less trendy, but probably a little more versatile because of that – i.e. you’ll still be able to wear it next summer, without worrying about looking “SO 2016!” – if, indeed, that’s the kind of thing you worry about (and I personally don’t think it should be).

If you’re looking for something even MORE timeless, and easy-to-wear, meanwhile, this dress isn’t off-the-shoulder, and it doesn’t have a ruffle either, but it’s a similar colour to the dress at the top of the page, and will allow to create a vaguely similar look, without the “on trend” elements:

Actually, I have to confess, I’ve had this dress in my basket a few times now, but have always ended up removing it again, when I remember that shirt-dresses are one of those items that look fantastic on other people, but which just make ME look like I forgot my pants. Please tell me I’m not the only one?
