ASOS ‘Portman’ gold pointed high heels, £40
Although I have a few pairs of shoes with ankle straps, they’re never the first shoes I’ll go for when I’m deciding what to wear, so I always appreciate a pair like these ones, in which the ankle strap is detachable. These shoes should still be perfectly wearable without it, and are a really classic, d-orsay shape, so it’s goo to have a choice of how to wear them.
Whatever your thoughts on ankle straps, however, it’s the shiny gold upper that’s destined to get all of the attention with these shoes. It’s something of a show-stopper, and, combined with the pointed, cut-out toe, will make these a good choice for dress occasions. The heel is 4″ high, but, judging by the ASOS catwalk video, these look to have a pretty narrow toe box, so I’m not sure quite how comfortable they’d be for an all-day event. They’re one of the more unusual styles I’ve seen at this price point recently, though, so here’s what I’d wear with them:
What to wear with gold shoes:
trousers // top // sunglasses // bag // watch
I headed to two of my high street retailers – River Island and Ted Baker – to create this look. The jacquard Ted Baker top actually has a pair of matching trousers to go with it, but although I love co-co-ordinating skirts and tops, I tend to think the versions with trousers can end up looking a bit like expensive pyjamas, so I’ve gone for a simple pair of cream high-waisted trousers instead – just a little bit easier to wear! Oh, and those trousers come in no less than six different colours: I love the bright green ones, but I’d happily wear the rest, too!
I’d prefer no ankle strap but they are a lovely shade of gold.
