There was a time not so long ago, when the very idea of beige ankle boots would’ve made me raise my eyebrows a little. How would I keep them clean, I’d have wondered? What would I wear with them? As it happens, however, over the past year or so, I’ve managed to acquire a couple of pairs of boots in this shade, and in answer to those questions:

1. I’ve miraculously managed to keep them clean. I’m not quite sure HOW I’ve managed that, given that they’re both suede/faux suede, but I suspect the fact that I keep them for dry days only is probably the main reason!

2. I CAN wear them with pretty much anything, but I mostly wear them with similarly light colours. I’m a big fan of pale colours for winter: the darker ones normally associated with cold weather definitely have their place, but black in particular is very draining on my pale skin (and who really needs to make a gloomy day feel even darker?) so I’m always on the lookout for lighter, brighter shades – in suitably warm fabrics, of course. Perhaps a little something like this, for instance:

DRESS // COAT  // BAG // SUNGLASSES

These boots particularly appealed to me because of the gold zips, which run all the way from the tip of the toe to the top of the ankle. Cream and gold is one of those very luxe combinations, and the zip helps add interest to a plain boots, without ruining the simplicity of the shape with unnecessary detail. The dress, meanwhile, is from River Island, and is one of those awesome dress-up/dress-down winter basics: not bad for £28 (which is probably why it’s in low stock in most sizes – and already sold out in mine: darn it!)!
