My small, but constantly growing, collection of Vivienne Westwood/Melissa Lady Dragon shoes can probably be taken as a good sign that I’m not opposed to the idea of jelly shoes for adults: even expensive ones. In fact, I love my Lady Dragons, and would probably buy them in every single colour they’re available in if I possibly could.
These, though? These YSL jelly Tribute platforms? Which are $495? Er, I’ll pass on that, thanks. And it’s not just because of the colour – which I probably wouldn’t wear in ANY fabric, let alone plastic (Don’t get me wrong, I love me some mustard shoes, but these are a bit bright even for my yellow-loving heart), because the black version of these aren’t any more appealing to me.
Looking for a plus side, I guess you could argue that these are weatherproof, are probably very hard-wearing (so you’ll get more bang for your buck than you would with the leather or suede versions, which will be that bit more delicate), and if you don’t wear leather but love Tributes, these will at least allow you to wear them without compromising your principles.
I still wouldn’t buy them, though: would you?
(If you answered “yes”, you can click here to buy them from Bergdorf Goodman)
I love Melissa shoes, and as soon as I get on a plane to Australia I’ll be buying as many as I can, but these monstrosities just make me think of those little, luridly coloured shoes I used to put on my Barbie dolls.
Oh no, these shows in plastic? No! And jelly shoes for that price? Again no!
What turns me off about these shoes is the colour. They’re a nice “earwax” yellow. Yeck!
I dream about the YSL Tribute sandals… but not in plastic. Ew.
