Shoe Deja Vu: Charlotte Olympia Vs Charlotte Russe ‘Lips’ platforms

cheap knockoffs of Charlotte Olympia shoes

I’m wearing an old pair of Charlotte Russe sandals as I write this post, which reminded me how long it’s been since I last checked out the brand’s website. Actually, there’s a good reason for that, and it’s demonstrated by the image above. While Charlotte Russe shoes have always been of teh “cheap n’ cheerful” variety, in recent years there’s been a shift away from making cute, affordable styles, towards blatantly copying high-end designers, which is presumably good for the brand’s finances, but a little disappointing nevertheless.

In this case, they’ve very obviously drawn “inspiration” from another Charlotte: namely Charlotte Olympia, whose ”Kiss Me” platforms I featured last summer. Although the fabrics and workmanship are very different between these two shoes, the styles themselves are identical, which makes me wonder how Charlotte Russe are getting away with this – or continuing to get away with it, rather, because these are far from the only copies on their website.

What do you think? Would you buy either of these shoes – the original or the copy? The Charlotte Olympia versions are from last year, so are sold out, but the CR version can be found here, and also come in black.
