Sophia Webster Amanda embellished satin sandals, £420
It’s been a long time since a pair of platforms made it onto my shopping wish list, but if these ones were a little more budget-friendly (or, OK, a LOT more budget friendly…) they just might make it. On paper, they sound like everything I DON’T like in a shoe, from the thick heel, to the platform sole, to the numerous, oversized jewels, which I always think can really cheapen a shoe, if you’re not very careful.
As soon as I saw these on a foot, however, I was smitten. It’s funny how that happens with some shoes, isn’t it? When worn, the simple lines and black satin straps really come into their own, while the jewel embellishments are just the right size to make them stand out, even from a distance. Although these look like skyscrapers, Net-a-Porter informs us that this is a 4″ heel, which will feel positively low when paired with that 1″ platform sole.
skirt / top / bag / cocktail ring
I’m happy to see Oasis continue last year’s trend for co-ordinating separates, with this skirt and top, which are designed to work perfectly together, but which will both work just as well with other pieces: now that’s value for money! There’s also a matching clutch bag to go with this dress and skirt, but even I have my limits on how far I’m willing to go with the ‘matchy-matchy’ look (No, I know you wouldn’t think it…), so I substituted a black one instead. If you don’t like the green, rest assured that black sandals are never hard to style: if you’re stick for ideas, though, try picking one of the jewel colours from the embellishment, and basing your outfit around that. Pink, purple, orange, blue… it’s up to you!

Beautiful detailing on the top, although the platform will date quickly.
