Rocha. John Rocha red tassel-trim court shoes, £22.50
“Cheeky” was the word that instantly sprang to mind when I first saw these shoes. I’m not really sure WHY that is, but I feel like, if they were human, they’d be sticking their tongue out at me right now, and making a “ner-ner-ner-ner” sound. They just have that kind of look about them, somehow.
Am I willing to forgive them for it? You know, I’m just not sure. I really like the basic shape: the thicker-than-usual heel gives them a lot of impact, and, of course, the bright red suede-effect upper only adds to that effect. But then there’s the tassel. That cheeky little tassel. It’s sticking up proudly from the tie, and it’s obviously the focal point of the shoe, but when I look at it, all I can see is one of those plumes you see on horses in the circus, or on parade. I’m also really curious about how it would move when you were walking in these. Would it bounce up and down? Shimmer in the breeze? I’m not sure, but I guess now is a good time to find out, because these are currently on sale, and down to just £22.50. You don’t get shoes much cheaper than that… but perhaps there’s a good reason why they’re still available at that price?
What do you think of them?
I don’t like these at all. I think the shape is putting me off.
