River Island Spring/ Summer 2016 Shoe Preview

Happy new year, everyone!

I hope you all had a good start to 2016. I’m starting the new year the way I intend to continue it: with shoes, obviously. Oh yeah, and by dreaming of spring, because with a good few months of winter still ahead of us, I’m going to need something to look forward to, to get me through the cold, dark days ahead. Or maybe a FEW “somethings” actually.

Luckily for me, the weather may still be stuck on winter, but the shoes in stores are starting to take on a decidedly summery feel, and today I’m continuing the summer theme by taking a look at the spring/summer 2016 collection from River Island.

River Island is one of my favorite high street brands for both shoes and clothes. I can almost always find something to love from them, and while this isn’t my favourite collection, I do like the fact that it’s full of high, strappy sandals – one of my favorite summer styles .

This collection is heavy on the suede: almost all of the shoes I’ve featured here have suede uppers – with the noteable exception of the two denim pairs. Yes, you read that right: denim shoes. Now, don’t get me wrong: I love me some denim when it comes in the form of a fitted jacket or a great pair of jeans. I’m a little less keen on the fabric on shoes, but on the plus side, I do like the shape of the strappy sandals, and it’s not immediately obvious what they’re made from, so they’re not as bad as they could have been.

There’s also a lot of what I think of as “boot sandals” – i.e. the kind of sandals that cover all, or most of the foot. This is a style I think works really well with skinny jeans or trousers, and I like the available colour selections here, too – something to look forward to, indeed!
