Miu Miu two-tone leather pumps, £460

When autumn and winter roll around, I normally like to try and combat the dreary days with brightly coloured clothes and shoes. This year, however, the opposite has been true, and I’ve been finding myself drawn to a more muted coluor palette of predominately blacks, whites, and greys – with, of course, some green and gold thrown in. Well, I wouldn’t be me without my beloved green dresses, would I?

These Miu Miu pumps combine two of those “muted” colours to tremendous effect. Black and white is such a classic combination, but it’s far from boring, and can be just as bold as one of those bright jewel tones I’d normally be wearing at this time of year. These shoes have a bit of a 60s vibe to them, between the monochrome upper and the rounded toe, but the look is still very modern. I’ve tried to reflect that contemporary/retro mix in the outfit I’ve styled them with, which uses 60s-inspired prints and shapes (the funnel necked coat and over-sized sunglasses) with a touch of modern minimalism from the black skinny jeans and simple sweater:

Lovers of rounded toes will appreciate the softer-than-usual shape of these shoes, which make a nice change from the usual pointed pumps, while still retaining the sleek, classic style associated with them. These would also work with colours other than black and white, obviously: in fact, there’s really not much they WOULDN’T work with, and they’re also fairly seasonless, making them the kind of thing you can wear now, and still wear next spring.
