Miss Selfridge ‘Cavendish’ rose gold slingbacks, £45
I’ve written quite a bit lately of the return of the platform sole, and that trend is definitely continuing. Driven in part by this summer’s 70s-revival, shoes like the ones above are starting to pop up all over the high street, which I know will thrill some of you, and disappoint others.
These particular shoes are by Miss Selfridge and have a gold upper with a textured gold heel and platform: they’re described as rose-gold in the site description, and while they look more of a yellow gold on my screen, one of the reviews on the site says the photo doesn’t do them justice and that they are, indeed, a lovely rose-gold colour. They’re also a little bit 70s-disco, with a touch of the ‘noughties’ thrown in: shoes like this were a pretty common site a few years ago, so they’re not quite as much of a throwback as might otherwise have been the case, but even so, when I look at them, the Saturday Night Fever theme starts playing in my head, so there is that.
Pretty Dress Company ‘Hourglass’ dress, £95
To go with them – or NOT to go with them, as the case may be – I’ve picked this pale pink ‘Hourglass’ dress by The Pretty Dress Company, who I featured here quite recently. I actually wore one of their dresses myself last week (an older style, featured on my other blog) which re-awakened my interest in the brand, and made me want to buy some more of their pieces! This style is a classic of theirs, and comes in a variety of different colours and prints, and also in a swing version. I’ve picked this pink version because I love the way pink looks against rose gold – it’s one of those combinations you just can’t go wrong with!
