Styling a midi skirt becomes harder in winter, because you typically need to add lots of layers to be warm enough.

The first thing to note about this outfit is that the midi skirt shown isn’t a “true” midi: it hits just below the knee, rather than at mid-calf, making it easier to style on my short legs. I also wore this outfit with over-the-knee boots, which I find work better than shorter boot with a midi skirt, as they create a much more streamlined shape. Knee or ankle-length boots will create more “lines” across the leg, sectioning it up into smaller pieces, and making it look shorter, while over-the-knee boots provide one, seamless line.

The other key element of this outfit is the short, fitted jacket. Longer, looser styles of outerwear can look slightly messy with midi skirts, as you end up with hems at different length. Short jackets with fitted shapes and nipped-in waists, however, will work in much the same way as the crop tops I mentioned above.
