Green suede slingbacks from H&M

Green suede slingbacks, £34.99

I’ve been critical of H&M’s shoes in the past, and while the brand still wouldn’t be my first stop for footwear (Just for trousers. And skirts. And sweaters. And, oh, just about everything else they sell, basically: big H&M fan over here), lately I’ve been finding a few things to pique my interest, including these green suede slingbacks, which have a snakeskin effect print on the upper.

These also come in beige and black, and given the price tag and brand, you’re probably expecting me to tell you those uppers are man-made, but nope: they’re 100% leather, which makes them a bit of a bargain. The beige or black versions would probably be the most sensible choice, but I, of course, prefer the green, which I would wear with this skirt:

Er, probably not with the flamingo sweater, though. Probably more like this:

Almost exactly like this in fact, for yes folks, I HAVE thought about this. I actually ordered the skirt as soon as it was available: I already have the same one in mustard, you see, and it’s one of my favourite items of clothing, so when I saw it was also available in white, I instantly started imagining all of the various outfits  I could create with it and, to get back onto the topic of shoes, all of the different SHOES it would work with. Because the fact is, brightly coloured shoes are fabulous, and God knows I have a LOT of them. They CAN be tricky to style sometimes, though, which is probably why I ALSO have a shelf full of nudes, which go with everything. A white skirt, however (or dress, or jeans, or whatever) is one item you can guarantee you’ll be able to wear with almost any colour of shoes… which is why when my H&M order arrived last week, and the skirt wasn’t in it (They took so long to ship the order that it sold out: boo!), I was just a little bit disappointed.

The skirt is still available in UK sizes 12, 14 and 16. The green suede slingbacks, however, are available in everything from a size 3.5 to 7.5: get them while you can!
