Five on Friday | Tops Edit

Tops and knitwear are amongst the most neglected areas of my wardrobe. I seem to be forever finding dresses and skirts I want to buy, and even a great pair of jeans will have me reaching for my credit card – mostly because it’s so rare to find a pair that fits that when I do, I don’t want to risk missing out on them!

Tops, however, are another matter altogether, and while I do find plenty that I like, for some reason I can never quite bring myself to hit the “Buy Now ” button on them. The result? Tons of jeans and skirts … and absolutely nothing to wear with them. D’oh! Well, in a bid to redress the balance slightly, this week I’ve turned my attention to tops: here are five of my current favourites…

Oasis floral peplum top

OASIS FLORAL PEPLUM TOP

This floral peplum top is sweet and summer, and I like the fact that the peplum detail isn’t too large, making it a bit easier to style and wear. This one would look fabulous with jeans and strappy sandals.

oasis stripe bonjour tee

OASIS BONJOUR TEE

I’m a sucker for a slogan tee, and as you’ve probably noticed, I’m also a sucker for a stripe. Put the two together, and you get this cute little Oasis tee, which will look great with a full midi skirt, or with a pair of white trousers/jeans, for a nautical-inspired look.

Speaking of nautical looks…

Breton stripe sweater

WAREHOUSE BRETON STRIPE SWEATER

It might be predictable, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want it anyway…

off-shoulder tee

GETTING BACK TO SQUARE ONE OFF-SHOULDER TEE

I don’t know about you, but I often think the simplest items of clothing can be the best, which is why I love this off-shoulder tee: it’s just a little bit more special than a regular old crewneck, but it should be just as easy to wear.

TOPSHOP GREEN FITTED HERRINGBONE SHIRT

I got really into shirts last year, having previously not even owned any for years. I already have a selection of white button-ups, which are such an easy way to smarten up a pair of jeans – I think this green version of Topshop would work just as well: and it has the advantage of being a little more unusual, too!
