Christian Louboutin ‘Booton’ Mary Jane Pumps
I’m not normally a big fan of Mary Janes: I like the look of them on other people, but when I’ve tried to wear them myself, they’ve always just reminded me of school shoes, or made me feel like Alice in Wonderland, or something. In other words, they have a tendency to look/feel just a little bit childish on me, and that’s not really the look I’m going for!
I do make one exception in all of this, though, and that’s for Mary Jane shoes made by Christian Louboutin – ANY Mary Jane shoes made by Christian Louboutin, that is. My favourite designer has created quite a few pairs in this single-strap style over the year, and I can honestly say I’ve loved them all – in fact, I even own a pair of them. (The “Mad Mary” studded MJs from a few years back.) And seriously, can you blame me? I mean, I don’t think anyone would describe the shoes shown above as even remotely “childish”, do you? They definitely don’t look like school shoes – or not unless your school was a whole lot more stylish than mine was, anyway! – and they’re not even a little bit matronly, either: which is the other problem I often have with Mary Jane shoes. No, they’re pretty much perfect, as far as I’m concerned, and the secret is all in the positioning of the strap. Whereas many Mary Jane shoes have a strap which goes right over the bridge of the foot, Louboutin normally puts them much lower down – which looks far more elegant, and even a little bit sexy. Add in a four inch stiletto heel, and an almond shaped toe, and this is what you’re left with – an absolutely beautiful shoe, which will never go out of style.
