Brian Atwood Starlet neon patent-leather pumps, $650
Yesterday I found a pair of shoes pretty enough to make me forget that I don’t like mid-height heels; today I find a pair of shoes with the power to make me forget that I don’t like neon.
Actually, if I was in the mood to quibble, I’d probably say these shoes strike me as less of a “neon” than simply a very bright pink. I can live with that. And if they ARE neon, and the colour just looks different on my monitor, well, I can probably live with that, too: of all of the various neons out there, I find pink one of the least offensive, and the shape of these pumps is beautiful enough to make up for just about ANY colour on the upper.
These are Brian Atwood’s Starlet pumps, and it’s not a new design: it’s actually an Atwood classic, and it’s not hard to understand why the designer would want to keep making this particular style, is it? It’s that perfect, classic pump: it’s almost impossible to go wrong with something like this, and a simple colour change can make it feel almost like a different shoe.
I’ll take a pair in every colour they ever come in – in my dreams, that is…
That shape is just about the most perfect shape ever.
