Shoe Save # 36/77: Blue suede peep toes by Georgia Rose

WHAT: Blue suede Georgia Rose peep toes, c/o Sarenza
WHEN: Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011
WITH: Blue skirt (River Island sale), green top (Zara)

OMG, COLOURBLOCKING!

Now, it may not seem like much to you, but I’ve never been a big follower of fashion, and I’m also the kind of girl who always wears bright colours with black or white, and who would normally choose to pair bright blue shoes with a black dress or jeans, so this outfit was a bit of a departure for me. Both the skirt and the top had to be altered before I could wear them, though, and when I tried them on for my mum (that woman is a saint, I’m telling you) to see what she could do with them, I liked the two colours together and decided to give it a whirl, as you can see from the photo above.

The shoes are by Georgia Rose, and I got them last month as part of the Sarenza brand ambassador programme. I absolutely love the colour of these, and now that I’ve been brave enough to try colourblocking, who knows, maybe I’ll also try wearing these with tights in the winter? In fact, maybe now there will be no stopping me, and I will start doing other “fashion blogger” things, like wearing Jeffrey Campbell shoes and taking photos of macarons?

(I look very suspicious here. I have no idea why.)

The skirt, meanwhile, is the blue version of this skirt, and was also purchased during the River Island sale. Unfortunately, it arrived with a busted zip: normally I would have just sent it back and exchanged it for another one, but by then they’d completely sold out, and I loved it so much I decided to keep it. (I would honestly live in these two skirts if I possibly could. Not at the same time, obviously, but I could just alternate them, perhaps?) My dad managed to get the zip working well enough for now (my wardrobe is very much a family affair, as you can probably tell), but it will need to be replaced at some point. It’ll still be worth it, though, because I really love it: although it’s exactly the same cut as the red skirt, the material is thicker, and has a slight sheen to it, which appeals to me. I just wish I’d thought to buy it before they sold out!

The top is from Zara, and its story is a tragic one. It’s never simple with me and my clothes, is it? My poor mum spent ages altering this top to fit me properly, but the iron turned out to have some weird kind of “burning” problem, so the top ended up with a little hole at the back. I really love the colour and shape, so I’m currently wearing it anyway, with a camisole underneath to disguise the burn, while searching eBay for a replacement. Such is the story of my life.

And thus ends Shoeperwoman’s experiment with colourblocking. Next up: harem pants!*

(*I’m joking. You couldn’t pay me to wear harem pants…)

  • Those colours really suit you! The shoes are amazing – now I really want to wear my blue suede shoes too 🙂

And thank God for mothers and grandmothers, I’ve lost count of how many dresses, skirt etc. I took to my grandmother to repair or alter 🙂

  • Wow, you look always gorgeous, but now with colorblocking even more! I loved the skirt and the shoes, this shade of blue is amazing – I love it that much, that I ordered two blue dresses last week! (One didn’t arrive yet, I had to think of the “Royal Fail”… and the other, which arrived, didn’t look good, unfortuantely.)
Matching that top with the skirt worked pretty well!
It’s the second time today that I pay compliments to a mother who helped the daughter… your mother deserves it! It reminded me of mine, and dad too, so, you always reach my heart!

    • Don’t lose hope yet – I’ve been finding that the Fail can take more than a week to deliver things these days (just got an order today which I placed last week!), so it may still turn up! I love this shade too: I’ve actually just ordered a pencil skirt in the same colour, so I guess I’m going to be wearing a lot more of it: it’ll make a change from all the green, at least 🙂

  • Wow! I don’t have words to describe how much I like those shoes and this outfit in general! Love the color of the shoes, and the shape and height of the heel. They’re perfect.
Good job with the colorblocking trend. Of course green and blue are two colors that look fantastic on you. And I like the contrast they create with your fantastic red hair. I think that they both are favourite colors of yours. 🙂
You look gorgeous! You can now move on to other trends as well, I’m sure you would look fantastic in anything, ’cause you have great style.

    • Oh yes, definitely too of my favourite colours, although at the moment I’m really craving things in mustard yellow, too: there’s just so much of it around that I’m spoilt for choice, though 🙂

Thanks for the lovely comment 🙂

  • Those colors look great together! The teal top is an immensely flattering color for you. I adore the whole look.

    • Thanks, I’m really glad I tried it: it was literally while I was trying the two things on for my mum to alter them I thought, hmm, those actually look pretty good together!

  • Ahhhh this is an AMAZING outfit Amber, I let out a little gasp at the wonderfulness of that full skirt in spinning mode at the top. I’ve made two circle skirts – one in purple and one in yellow, but for some reason neglected my two favourite colours – blue and red! Your shoe challenges have put them firmly back on my To Sew list.

Your hair looks stunning with those soft curls as well 🙂

    • I totally covet your yellow circle skirt. I have one in a kind of ochre shade, but it’s very much a “midi” length, and may be a little long for even my midi-loving self, so I haven’t worn it yet. I am so jealous of your sewing skills: I really should find the time/patience to learn!

      • Haha what I never show when I wear my yellow one is that the waistband is a bit puckered and not straight! Definitely still learning, so hopefully if I do a red or blue one it’ll be as stunning as the ones you have been sporting 🙂

Having someone to show you is definitely key. I, much like you, have no patience for fiddly jobs so my partner’s mum is more than supportive and shows me all the easy ways to do things!

        • Ah, but mine has a busted zip, which I was scared to pull all the way to the top, so it’s mostly being held together at the waitband by the belt! I will definitely get the zip replaced one day, but for now I just really wanted to wear it!

I’m really lucky in that both my mum and my mother-in-law are excellent dressmakers: I really should make the time to sit down with them one of these days and get them to teach me from scratch – I just fear that I don’t really have the patience for it: I’ve never been a very “crafty” person, and I couldn’t even seem to learn how to thread my sewing machine, never mind anything else. It would be so worth learning, though: almost everything I buy has to be altered in some way before I’m happy with it!

  • Awesome skirt! I have never done colour blocking, mainly because I don’t own that many coloured clothes haha. I tend to buy more black and grey.

    Talitha xx

  • I almost bought the red version of that skirt on Monday, but decided it would be a bit short on me and it would be a nightmare to iron!

I love this colour combination – it’s perfect on you and the shoes are gorgeous. You should definitely wear them with tights in the winter, it would be a shame to keep them only for what little summer you get up there. I always think of suede as a wintery fabric for some reason, which makes no sense as it will be ruined in wet weather or if there’s salt on the ground.

  • I love this outfit – it works so well on you Amber. The blue and teal colours with your gorgeous red hair are stunning!

  • Gorgeous outfit and beautiful colours! For an alternative look you could pair this outfit with your teal slingbacks which would also look stunning as they would match the top!
