Topshop ‘Shakespeare’ platforms, £65
Of all of the uppers we see on shoes, velvet has always been one of my least favourite: partly because it always makes me think of winter, but also because, for reasons I can’t quite explain, I always find it a little “dated” looking, even when paired with a modern design. Strange, I know, but true nevertheless.
These Topshop platforms definitely have a modern design: they use a flocked velvet upper atop a huge platform, and are finished off with a 5.6″ shiny gold heel. They’re certainly statement shoes, but does the upper remind you of pub wallpaper, or do you love the luxurious combination of gold and velvet?

Absolutely love that heel, reminds me of my Carvela GaGa’s. These would be fab winter party shoes.
There was pale blue velvet wallpaper in the house I lived in as a kid. The pattern on these reminds me of it so much!
