Sophia Webster multicolour peep toes with stripe platform, £346
Well, I think these definitely have to count as one of the more unusual shoes of the week for far, don’t you?
They’re by Sophia Webster and combine an ice-cream upper of pastel lilac and lemon, with a hot pink stiletto heel, and a slightly incongruous striped platform. It’s a shoe I would never in a millions years have put together myself, and I’m not totally convinced it works, but then again, perhaps that’s why I’m not a shoe designer.
I actually really like each of the individual elements of these, but I think I’d like them even more if they were split into two different shoes: put the stripe platform (which has a bit of a Nicholas Kirkwood feel about it) onto a plain black or white (or maybe black AND white) pump, and replace it with a hot pink one to match the heel, and I’d probably be drooling over both pairs. As it is, I’m going to turn this one over to you: what do you think of these?
[Buy them]
I was SO EXCITED when I saw these, I almost squealed (Ok, I may have, a little bit). Until I realised the upper is actually yellow AND lilac rather than just yellow, as I had originally thought they were (blame the pale colours+bright screen maybe). After that I tried really really hard to love them, but it just wasn’t happening. Basically, if the upper was just a plain lemon I would be all over these; they’re the kind of shoes I was never have thought up myself in a million years, but now that I see I really like them. However, that squiggly lilac bit spoils it for me & it’s no longer wonderful. Still a fun pair, no doubt.
