What: Pewter peep toes from Guess (c/o Marshalls)
When: Saturday, October 30th, 2010
Where: Halloween costume party
With: White dress and blonde wig (both eBay)
Halloween is one of my favourite times of year, and I have to confess, I love it not just because there are always a couple of great parties to go to, but because those parties offer the best opportunity I get to dress up as much as I want. I mean, no one can tell you you’re “overdressed” when some of the people in the room are painted blue, can they?
Basically, then, I use Halloween as an excuse for all-out glamour, so, for the first of the two costume parties we were invited to this Halloween, I decided to go as the ultimate retro-glamour girl:
Um, I was trying to do that whole, “Whoops, subway grating blew up my dress!” pose. I ended up looking like I just really needed to use the bathroom. Whoops.
Terry, meanwhile, went for something a little scarier:
See, he WAS going to go as an Egyptian mummy, and bought this on eBay with the intention of wrapping lots of bandages around it to create the desired effect. But when it arrived, he decided it was actually much scarier without the bandages and I had to agree…
The shoes are obviously the least-important part of this outfit, but let the record show that they’re by Guess, and were a PR gift from Marshalls a couple of years ago. They start to really pinch my toes after a few hours’ wear, which made them totally unsuitable for a party, but they seemed the right choice for the outfit, so I decided to just suck it up. Don’t do this at home, kids!
Now I need to come up with a costume idea for NEXT week. So far I’ve been Audrey Hepburn, Lady Gaga and Isla Fisher in ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’: suggestions welcome!
If you are looking for some costume tips here are a small collection:

How about Daphne from Scooby Doo?
You look great by the way!
I did think of that, but someone went as Daphne to the same party last year, and I don’t like to repeat – aah, the politics of costume parties!
W-o-w! Fantastic, you look very very beautiful! Great idea for a party! And the shoes? I loved them! Mmmhhh, well, I just posted I went to a party last year as a gypsy… I don’t know if you would like to, but that would be my suggestion now…!
Thank you 🙂 I’m not sure I have anything I could use as a gypsy costume, but I’ll have a look!
I’ve seen some pretty amazing Frida Kahlo’s… But you look great as Marilyn as well!
Thanks!
Love the shoes and you pull off Marilyn very well! Just gorgeous 🙂 xoxo
i also did Marilyn this year (again; I did the white dress a few years ago). This time was the pink sheath from her “Diamonds” number in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 🙂 Dress handmade by me!
You can’t see my shoes, but i went for some fun and paired my Iron Fist hot pink leopard print “Drop Dead” heels with it. They matched perfectly! Marilyn’s always fun to do; you look great in the blond wig 🙂

I don’t have any good suggestions for you but you did look great as Marilyn!
MaryJanice Davidson’s Vampire Queen, Betsy. She is obsessed with shoes. Not easily recognized, however.
You look fantastic! Terry, meanwhile, looks terrifying. Goal accomplished.
Jessica rabbit
or poison ivy
terry stole the spotlight. you look gorgeous, though! =)
Jessica Rabbit, with Terry as Roger Rabbit 🙂
I kept thinking Bonnnie & Clyde. Faye Dunaway is very glamourous as Bonnie, even though its supposed to be during the depression, she’s classically tailored and the little beret? I think you could do that costume supercute!
how about Jay Gatsby (obviously, Terry) and Daisy Buchanan(you)? 🙂 I think the flapper look would work rather lovely on you!
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone: I should have said that Terry’s costume is already sorted, so mine will have to be a stand-alone (Could have coupled-up with Terry’s character, but I don’t have anything I could use!)character. I somehow don’t think it will matter what I wear, as everyone will just be looking at Terry anyway, though, so I’m just going to go with something boring, using clothes I already have!
