Rupert Sanderson Zelena metallic leather Mary Jane pumps, $795
Ah, the good ol’ Mary Jane pump: a shoe I used to associate with Alice and Wonderland, and my own days at primary school, but which I now associate with killer curves, high heels, and polished uppers. Funny how your perception of something can change, isn’t it?
That change in perception is largely down to shoe makers like Christian Louboutin and Rupert Sanderson, who made these beautiful gold peep toes. The mirrored upper on these shoes makes them extra glamorous, and also ensures their versatility: if there’s a better colour than gold for an evening shoe, then I don’t know what it is! These would look stunning with shades like cobalt blue or emerald green, but they’ll look equally good with black, and, of course, red, as I’ve shown below. Net-a-Porter, meanwhile, style these with a floral print dress, so your only real limit here is your own imagination – oh, and the contents of your closet, of course!
red dress / shoulder bag / phone cover
This lovely dress is from Oasis, who’ve been knocking it out of the park with their dresses and skirts lately. As much as I love them, though, I do have a slight gripe about length, as I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve spotted something I’ve loved, only to take a closer look and discover that what I’d assumed to be at least knee-length, actually hits at mid-thigh. That was the case with this dress, too, but I suspect this is probably just a sign that I’m getting old, and am no longer part of the target demographic for the brand: it’s shorter than I’d like personally, but it’s by no means tiny, and I know there are plenty of you who’d look fantastic in it!
That is indeed a glorious shoe.
