Have you ever seen someone wearing something, and it’s completely changed your opinion of that thing?
It happened to me a few weeks ago with loafers. Now, until then, loafers had been one of those shoe styles I hadn’t really paid too much attention to. I think it might just be that I’ve always associated them with school shoes, but for whatever reason, I’d filed them in the “nice, but not for me” column.
Then, a few weeks ago, I was sitting in the reception area at the dentist’s, when a woman walked in and took the seat next to me. She was wearing black skinny jeans, a classic trench coat, and a pair of tan loafers, and although there’s obviously nothing revolutionary about that look, it was so stylish, and effortlessly pulled-together, that by the time I was called in for my appointment, I was already mentally flicking through my wardrobe, and trying to work out how I could replicate it.
As it turned out, I could replicate it pretty easily, but for one thing – those loafers. Ballet flats just wouldn’t do, I decided, so since then, I’ve been on the lookout for a pair of tan leather loafers. As luck would have it, there’s no shortage of the style around right now: in fact, this year they seem to have taken over from ballerina pumps as the flat shoe of choice. My issue, however, is that most of the pairs I’ve liked so far have been suede – which looks lovely, but which isn’t particularly practical for the non-stop downpour that’s been passing as the UK summer! I’ll keep on looking – and I’m sure it won’t be too tricky to find something that fits the bill. In the meantime, all of the loafers in this week’s Shoeper Shoesday can be found at Spartoo – happy loafing!
