Jerome C. Rousseau ‘Gilliamx’, £389
Jerome C. Rousseau just isn’t the kind of shoe designer who’d have been content to create a beautiful, cap-toe pump, and leave it at that. Oh no: he has to go and add a big ol’ loop detail to the heel, just to make it that little bit – or BIG bit – different.
Does it work? Well, it’s definitely different, but I’m not sure it’s the kind of detail that makes me want to spend £389 on a pair of shoes, to be honest. Although I guess those loops would come in handy if you wanted to hang them up somewhere, say? No, I have no idea why you’d want to do that. Moving on…
While the jury’s still out on the loops, then, I have unreserved love for the rest of this shoe. The taupe satin is such a gorgeous colour, and while these didn’t really need to be “dressed up” any more than they already were, the glitter covered toecap elevates the design into something truly special.
Does it work? I’m curious to hear what you think of these, and specifically whether you think the heel detail adds or detracts from the shoe as a whole, so drop me a comment and tell me what you think. If you just want to buy them, meanwhile, they’re £389 and available at Saks Fifth Avenue.
I could do without the loop, but I certainly wouldn’t say no if someone offered them to me.
