Dolce & Gabbana Vally crystal-embellished velvet pumps, £945
These shoes are aaaallll about the heels. And, OK, also about the purple velvet upper. And the bejeweled clasp on the Mary Jane strap. Actually, they’re a whole lot of everything, aren’t they?
I’ve been noticing quite a lot of shoes in this style popping up lately. They all have a mid-height, chunky heel, a rounded toe, and – crucially – tons of embellishment, mostly on that heel. The shape is vaguely 60s-inspired, and normally comes with a wide strap across the foot, as seen here. As evening shoes go, they certainly look comfortable, and that makes them something of a departure from the usual round of spindly heels and strappy sandals which tend to be the norm for dress shoes. The gold/purple combination, however, gives them a very opulent, luxurious feel, which makes them far from “sensible”, while the chunky heel helps prevent the jewels attached to it from looking tacky.
What to wear with these Dolce & Gabbana shoes?
The aforementioned 60s feel of the design inspired me to pair these shoes with something shorter and looser than the type of dresses I usually feature, and although the price tag on this particular dress will make you gasp, I think the colours and style work well with the shoes:
♥ Mulberry dress ♥ Tory Burch clutch bag ♥ Sole Society daisy stud earrings ♥ Alexis Bittar gold cuff
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on these shoes: as I mentioned, the style is becoming more and more fashionable at the moment, and is quite different from most of the other current footwear trends, which makes me curious to see how it’ll develop. What do you think: would you wear these shoes, and how would you style them, if so?
I wouldn’t wear these. I’m not a fan of the chunky heels – it reminds me of the styles of my tweens in the early 00s. And although I like embellishments in generally, I don’t like the extra-large jewels on these. I’d never be able to afford them anyway, so maybe it’s a moot point!
I don’t like how the jewels on the straps are different from the jewels on the heels. Seems like two shoes mashed together. I do like chunky heels in general though.
I’m not a huge fan of the chunky heel but I love everything else about these shoes!
