River Island black leather over-the-knee boots, £130
It’s been a relatively mild autumn so far in many parts of the country, but this week the weather turned chilly, which means it’s time to break out the boots!
I’m a huge fan of the over-the-knee boots, but generally tend to concentrate my shoe sleuthing around finding high-heeled styles, which I think work really well under skirts and dresses. Today, though, I thought I’d go for something a little different, in the shape of these low-heeled leather boots from River Island. These will be a little more practical than stilettos if you find yourself walking on icy streets, say, but the gold hardware on the leg adds a touch of polish, which keeps them looking smart. They’re the kind of boots that can be invaluable during wintry weather, and they’ll keep you much warmer than a lower-legged version would, too!
JEANS // THERMAL HENLEY// SWEATER // SOCKS // GLOVES // PARKA
This outfit was actually inspired by last night’s Bonfire Night celebrations, but is the kind of thing that would work just as well for any cold-weather outing. When I’m wearing over-the-knee boots, I’ll often add a pair of OTK socks, too, for a bit of added warmth: they also look good peeking out of the top of knee-high boots, too. For this particular outfit, I’ve also added a thermal under-layer: an absolute essential when the weather gets really cold, as it eliminates the need for tons of extra layers. I know a lot of people get excited at the thought of being “bundled up”, but I’ve always hated the feeling of being buried under layers of clothes. This outfit does include a few layers, but they should hopefully be relatively comfortable ones: don’t forget a pair of woolly gloves to keep your fingers warm, too!
