ASOS ‘Lacie’ embellished ballet flats, £25
When I first came across these shoes, I din’t think I was going to bother featuring them here. I found the pink pair first, you see, and my thought process went something like this:
“OOH! Pretty! Look at those flowers! And that bright pink upper! Cute..
.. but also maybe a bit cartoonish? And possibly cheap-looking in real life?”
It was the “cartoonish” bit that bothered me most. I mean, these shoes ARE fairly cheap, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if they looked it, but, in my first glance at them, the combination of the Barbie-pink upper and the bright, cut-out flowers made them look almost like a drawing of a shoe rather than a shoe itself. So I put them to the back of my mind, and went about my business.
The next day, however, I went back to the ASOS website to see what was new (One of the perks of blogging for a living is that you have an excuse to look at shopping websites every day – not that you necessarily need an excuse, obviously. You could also view this as a downside, of course: I’m pretty sure I’d spend a lot less money on clothes and shoes if I didn’t have to write about them every day…), and there was the silver version, which actually DOES look more like a real shoe – and a very pretty one at that.
Having been re-introduced to these, then, I went back to look at the pink pair, and whaddya know: I liked them a whole lot better the second time than I did the first. I love the colour combination, and while I STILL think they look a little bit cartoonish, I find myself much more willing to overlook that, for some reason. The great thing about shoes, as I always say, is that you can get away with much more than you can with clothes: so what if they’re a bit bright? It just means you have to try to find an outfit that will work with them – and that’s the kind of challenge I relish!
