What does everyone think of the pairing of socks and heels?
In general, I’ve always felt that, if you’re past a certain age, ankle socks really belong under trousers. Sure, the very young, and very trendy can often get away with them – and even look good in them – but on the rest of us? We’re going to look like overgrown toddlers, aren’t we? Sad, but true.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, however, clearly disagrees: she wore the outfit above to a Samsung TV party in London this week, and chose to pair her ankle socks with white button-front Mary Janes: a style of shoe which can, in itself, be a little bit infantilizing if you’re not careful how you wear it.
What do you think of this look? Would you wear ankle socks with heels?
I really like her dress here, but also the scuffs on her shoes are infuriating me and I just want to clean them! As to socks and heels I say ‘No’.

I know, I want to clean the shoes, too – this is one reason to avoid white shoes!
Funnily enough I absolutely love this look, and have been keeping my eyes open in recent weeks for some adult sized ankle socks. I haven’t found any… but I did find some wonderful lacey pop sock things with big ribbon ties on that I’m dying to wear with some heels. If anyone knows where I can get frilly ankle socks in a size 8 though I’d be eternally grateful.

ASOS have these ones:

They say “one size”, though, so not sure how great the fit would be. I remember seeing lots of frilly ankle socks there last summer, though, so could be worth keeping an eye on.
If you want something REALLY frilly/lacy, though, Sock Dreams have these ones:

Probably about as frilly as it gets for adults!
I like the look, have been wanting to wear ankle socks for ages but just want find any!

No, no I would NOT wear shoes and ankle socks. Oddly, the women in Uzbekistan (where I’ve just returned from) WOULD wear them. Maybe that’s where Sophie got her inspiration from.

I’m guessing she got her inspiration from Harajuku…
I adore everything else about her look; the cute dress, cardigan bag, and I even like the shoes.
If she were to do the whole ankle socks w/ heels look, maybe with either black shoes with white socks, or black socks with the white shoes. She looks so out of balance, color wise.

I could never pull off this look. But I suppose there are some who could…

i absolutely love the ankle socks / heels look- so cute!
this is one of those looks that women debate and men love.
I like the look, girls who moan about this are usually the ones that can’t pull it off so instead they make fun and make little digs, I wear ankle socks with my shoes and also the frilly ankle socks too there cool, it’s funny how most woman tell me to grow up but men really like it and don’t pass judgment.
men really like it and don’t pass judgment.
Unlike how you’re passing judgement on everyone who doesn’t have exactly the same taste as you, say? So, what you’re basically saying, is that it’s OK for YOU to make little digs at people, as you have in this snide little comment, but It’s not OK for anyone else to have an opinion on shoes. Got it.
I love her dress.I love the white socks on her but
I think it would have looked cuter with black
mary janes instead
