Shoe Save # 41: Thirties Girl

WHAT: River Island navy peep toes
WHEN: Saturday, August 20th, 2011
WHERE: Out to dinner, surprise, surprise!
WITH: Stop Staring dress, New Look clutch bag

I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to wear this dress ever since I bought it (at the Unique Vintage store in LA earlier this summer), and I figured this weekend was as good a time as any! No specialย occasional, really, but then, you know me: I don’t really need an excuse to get totally overdressed. (Well, you can’t take it with you, can you?)

The shoes are also one of my favourites:

These were from River Island, and I bought them last year, to mark Shoeperwoman.com’s first birthday. Because yes, I buy shoes for my blog. Ahem.

This weekend I finally learned how to use one of those hair donut things to make a bun, having owned one for years without having the slightest idea what to do with it. I think I’m just going to wear my hair like this ALL the time now: it was so quick and easy to do, I was kicking myself for not working it out sooner!

This was also the first time in a long time that I didn’t absolutely hate every photo I took of myself, so I may have gotten a little bit carried away.

The single pearl I’m wearing here belongs to my mum, and I wore it on my wedding day, along with the pearl bracelets. I liked the way they looked with the lace of the dress – a nice, vintage kind of feel!

These shoes also fall into the category of “been wearing them, just haven’t bothered to photograph them”. Because I wear such a lot of navy, they work with a large percentage of my wardrobe, so I’m glad I finally got round to officially “saving” them!

  • Had to laugh about the hair doughnut! I had one in my drawer for over a year before I plucked up the courage to try it. Now I use it ALL the time. Perfect for creating a chic top knot on those “inbetween washes” days.

  • So nice, the name of the dress brand is “Stop Staring”, but then, how can we stop? It’s really so beautiful, the lace detail, the cut, so so sweet! Also the shoes are amazing, I really loved them! And the hair? Goorgeous!
I also loved the pearl necklace! The pictures are always nice, com’on! They are fabulous now, once more!

  • You look absolutely amazing! I adore Stop Staring dresses, but that particular one is a favourite – you can never go wrong with navy and cream. Also, I swear by those hair donuts, I even used one on my wedding day! They’re brilliant (and also available in blonde – thankyou Claire’s Accessories :))

Also, I know it’s on your blog rather than Shoeperwoman, but I’m so sorry about everything that’s going on. I really do hope it gets sorted, and quickly xx

  • I love that dress! It’s beautiful! You look lovely as always, and the new hairstyle turned out really well ๐Ÿ™‚

  • You look fantastic! Perfect 30’s look! I love the dress and the shoes! And you’re right, the single pearl necklace goes perfectly with the lace of the dress!

  • Thanks for the comments, everyone! As some of you know, I’m a bit distracted this week because, unbelievably, we’ve found ourselves in the same position we were with Shoeperwoman a few months ago, this time with someone copying Terry’s website design brand: there’s a post about it here, if anyone’s interested.

It’s kind of taking up all of our energy at the moment, so sorry if posts and responses are a little slow – I am reading your comments, though, so thank you for that!

  • (Regarding the last photo:) Step aside, Pippa Middleton, here’s a backside to marvel at! ๐Ÿ˜€
Gorgeous look, Amber! I wish I was able to wear dresses more often…

  • Ah I have these shoes I love them! I bought them for my hen weekend after seeing them on your blog (the original and best) I was soooo pleased when they lasted two whole end of season sales before eventually being reduced ๐Ÿ™‚ well done on the doughnut I have one too ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • You look gorgeous! I may have to buy myself one of those hair donut doohickeys and try it out. I’m always looking for new hairstyles!

    • I had had one for absolutely years – I just never bothered working out how to use the thing! Now that I have, though, I’ve been wearing it almost every day – it’s so easy, but makes you look like you’ve made an effort ๐Ÿ™‚

  • You know, I think this is my favourite shoe save of yours all year! You look absolutely incredible in 30s style clothes, and the lace neckline is so beautiful.

I have resisted buying anything from Stop Staring so far, as the shipping is horrendous, but you may have just showed me my birthday present to myself… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Aw, thanks, Kerry! And I know what you mean about the shipping – that’s why I bought so many SS/Bettie Page dresses when I was California: the shipping and import duties can make them almost twice the price here ๐Ÿ™ That’s also why I have a constant eBay alert set up for them both!
