Shoe Storage Shelves Complete!

Well, I did it! Here are my office-shelves-turned-shoe-shelves in all of their shop-like glory!

As I predicted, these shelves were nowhere near big enough to hold my entire shoe collection: that’s 37 pairs you can see, which means that the rest are either still in the shoe closet or, in the case of my winter boots, in storage in the attic, but hey, it’s a start, and it does make it much easier to see what I have, as even the shoe-closet shoes are much more visible now that they’re notΒ all piled on top of each other or tucked away in boxes.

Following the advice of some of my readers, I didn’t put out any suede shoes, for fear of what the dust would do to them, so they’re still in the closet. I also resisted the impulse to colour-code, because I figured it might make the whole thing look a little too much like a shoe shop, but I did do this in a bit of a hurry, so I’ll probably play around with them a bit, and may end up putting some of the more expensive pairs back in their boxes for safe-keeping: we’ll just see how things go.

The red wedges are waving at you. I hope you’re all waving back?

The lesser-worn shoes are on the bottom shelf. That’ll show them.

Oh, hai patent shoes! I expect I’ll be dusting you a lot, won’t I?

In other news, it’s been a rough couple of days, as those of you who follow me on Twitter will know, so no further progress on the Shoe Challenge. I’ll do better next week… or I’ll try, anyway.

Oh, and you may notice the shoe total in my sidebar has gone down by one pair: while I was clearing out my closets, I realised that I’d somehow managed to lose a shoe. Yes, just one. It’s not actually a huge deal, because the missing shoe was one half of an ancient pair of flats that I was planning to throw out soon anyway, but still: who loses shoes? Oh yeah, me, apparently…

  • Are you arranging them by designer? I see the Louboutin Sisters together there, keeping each other company. I am SOOOO jealous.

    • They’re actually arranged totally randomly, with the exception of the Louboutins, which seemed to demand to be put together πŸ™‚ (With the exception of the suede ones, of course, which are still in their box. Stupid dust!)

  • I fully intend to implement a similar shoe storage solution when we move to our magical new house, which clearly does not exist yet but when I win the lotto, look out!

  • looks great XD i think you should colour code your shoes though cause it’ll look prettier and it’ll be easier to find a pair of shoes to complement your outfit (:

  • Shoe shelves…one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! And Amber, you own some really lovely shoes. Can’t wait to buy a house some day and configure my own set of shoe selves…or a shoe closet as an alternative!

  • you have really nice collection of shoes. no wonder you couldn’t get rid of them immediately. if you are a size 9, i’d ask you if you could give me the white and blue striped shoe with a red heart… but since you are not, i will just ogle with envy. =P

  • I’m so very jealous of your beautiful shoes! Granted, I could only walk in about half of them, but practice fixes that problem doesn’t it?

  • I think it looks very nice….I also think clear boxes with the shoes in them, nicely arranged, would look nice without the pesky dusting.

    • For some reason I’ve never gotten on with those boxes… I used to have loads of them, but I found that once the shoes were in there, they tended never to come out again. I think I’m just too lazy for anything that involves stacking πŸ™‚

  • Waow !

    I’m jealous !!!!!
I rearranged my shoes last week-end, for I had bought 3 new pairs…
Woth luck, the saleswoman gave me empty boxes so I could pack older pairs to protect them !
Now everything is well organized (for the moment… A new pair might break this balance πŸ™‚ ) but in three different parts of my home….
Ah…. you’re lucky to see all your children in one look ! πŸ™‚

  • If I may I’d like to add a few pictures of my own storage solution (yes, I’m late…) which is not too unlike yours, except for the fact that this rack was designed especially for shoes. I got it in some furniture market about 14 years ago, so I’m not sure if they still make them. Anyway, I think it’s very practical as it takes up very few space and keeps your shoes in a way that you can easily see them all. (Well the few that fit into it, anyway).

The brown ones on the second shelf are my boyfriend’s, obviously. (I’ve generously allowed him to store three of his pairs there. πŸ˜‰ The other two are right on top and not in the picture.)

This is the bottom half. As you can see, it even has wheels for easy movement.

Of course I couldn’t fit all of my shoes into it, so the rest (of those I wear regularly) has to stay under the coat rack:

    I hope they’re not too envious… πŸ˜‰

  • just wanted to know where did you get this shelving unit from? what is the name of it? and how much does it cost i love it & need it soo bad in my life!!

    • It was just from Ikea – I got it many years ago, though, so I’m afraid I can’t remember the name or price: I’m sure they’ll have lots very similar/the same, though.

  • Another useful idea (in case you don’t have enough shelves for ALL of your shoes) would be to put them in their shoe boxes, but then have a photograph of the shoe on the front of the box- that way you know what’s inside without having to rummage around!
