Vivienne Westwood for Melissa Space Love Ballet Flats
It’s been a long time since I bought anything by Vivienne Westwood for Melissa. A few years back, I used to be absolutely obsessed with this line, and had way more pairs of jelly shoes than is really rational, if I’m totally honest about it. As I’ve gotten older, though, I’ve noticed that while I still love to admire those shoes on my shelves, I’m no longer quite as interested in wearing them, opting instead for what I think of as slightly more “grown up” styles. That’s not to say I’ve suddenly started believing in age-appropriate dressing, or anything like that – I mean, heaven forbid! Actually, the older I get, the less concerned I am about which clothes/shoes might be considered “appropriate”, and concentrate instead on wearing the things I feel good in. So while I’m not for a second saying I think grown-ups shouldn’t wear jelly shoes, I do think my own style has shifted enough for them to not feel quite “me” any more, if that makes sense? Which brings me to these ‘Space Love’ flats, which are from the latest Vivienne Westwood/Melissa collection.
Now, as I say, I really thought I’d bought my last pair of these shoes. Then I saw these over at Shopbop, and before I knew what had happened, I was adding them to my Wish List. Hmmm. I’m not sure how much wear I’d get out of them, but the pink and black combination is so cute, and so easy to wear, and as for that bow – well, it’s almost irresistible to me. I think I’d wear these most often with something fairly casual, like jeans, or black capri pants, but if you’re into the retro or girlie look, they’d also look great with a full skirt or dress. And, the more I think about it, the more it occurs to me that maybe I’m NOT quite done with jelly shoes, after all…
I love my jelly flats. They are the perfect bad weather shoe. No matter what I do to them I can toss them in the sink for a quick rinse and they look new again.
