Kurt Geiger ‘Mandy’ pink leather Mary Janes, £190

Although I’ve looked at these shoes many times now, I’ve held back from featuring them, because a very long pointed toe (especially on a Mary Jane) still looks rather dated to me. In fact, these could actually pass for a pair of Manolo Blahniks from the late 90s/early 00s, and that’s not necessarily a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

Despite my reservations, however, they’re here anyway, because it’s not often I find a pair of baby pink shoes with a metallic toecap, and when I do, I start thinking of Elle Woods, legal-eagle Barbie (which I possibly just made up, but I’m sure Barbie can probably count “lawyer” amongst her many careers) and any other female business-woman-with-a-girlie-side stereotype you can think of. And that sometimes IS a good thing. Only sometimes, though…

  • I have the Manolos you’re talking about and they were exactly the shoes I thought of when I saw this post. I’m not feeling the toe cap, I’m not sure it works on a Mary Jane.

  • I had a pair of these in the 90s without a toe cap. I would not be inclined to buy them again with a toe cap.
