It’s been a while since I last featured a pair of giant platforms, so without further ado, meet Christian Louboutin’s ‘Palais Royale’ which has a 140mm stiletto heel, balanced out (to some extent, at least) by that chunky, two-layer platform.

Platforms have found themselves a little bit left behind in recent months, as the fashion world races to embrace the pointed-toe pump in their place. There are still plenty of them around, however, and although I don’t wear this kind of style as often as I used to, I still like to keep a few pairs around: as I’ve mentioned before, they come in particularly handy with certain midi dresses or skirts, which I think need an extra bit of height to stop them looking too frumpy.

These platforms have a soft gold leather upper, jazzed up with the glitter insole, which is just visible at the tip of the toe. If there IS such a thing as a “subtle” way to wear glitter, I guess this would be it – although you could also argue that there’s absolutely nothing subtle about a pair of gold platforms! Subtle or not, they’re a great choice of colour for evening shoes, and, as I never tire of saying, will work with just about everything, allowing you to (hopefully) get your $945 worth of wear out of them!
