THE SHOES: Christian Louboutin Follies Cabo 120, £895
Aaaand it’s back to black for this week’s Friday Louboutin Fix, folks! In my defense, though, these shoes may be black, like so many of the other pairs of Louboutins I’ve shown you recently, but they DO have a touch of gold on the heel: and, of course, that iconic red sole!
Those touches of colour aside, this is another classic black pump, from the man who turned the humble black pump into a work of art. The shape is totally Louboutin, with the characteristic pointed toe, curved side, and 120mm heel. The upper meanwhile, is covered in studs from heel to toe. This is another thing Louboutin does often, and does exceptionally well, always managing to bring a slightly new spin to the studded upper. In this case, the all-black studs, surrounded by gold hardware, give these shoes an edgy sophistication. ‘Subtle’ they’re not, but imagine the studs in gold or silver, and you’ll see a totally different shoe: the monochrome upper is just a little more toned-down, but still oozes style, while the gold stiletto heel is the stuff shoe dreams are made of.
The 120mm heel, without a platform to balance it out, is never going to be the most comfortable shoe to walk in (I gave some tips on how to walk in the similar Pigalle 120 here, but I honestly think it’s really a matter of practice: you DO get used to it, I promise!), but it IS one of the most visually stunning, and next time I need a quick pick-me-up, I’m going to come back to this page for a look at those heels!
If you’d like to wear them, rather than simply looking at them, meanwhile, they’re £895, and available at Net-a-Porter, amongst other places.
They are truly magnificent.
