10 Dresses to Wear to Work

Looking for dresses to wear to work? Well, you’re not the only one: this is a question that comes up quite often, and it’s one I’ve so far avoided answering, because as a self-employed blogger, finding office-appropriate dresses isn’t something I’ve had to think about for a very long time! I mean, I’m writing this in workout gear, with no makeup, and my hair pulled back into a scruffy ponytail: says it all, really!

With that said, I might not actually NEED to buy dresses for work, but that doesn’t mean I don’t LIKE them. One of the few downsides of working from home for me is the fact that I no longer have an excuse to buy all of those workwear dresses I keep coming across: I realise this might sound a bit bizarre, but I often find myself drawn to the type of dress most people would only really consider wearing to work. I don’t buy them (or not too often, anyway), because I know I wouldn’t get to wear them, but I do still enjoy looking at them, and today I’ve rounded up some of my favourite ‘wear-to-work’ dresses, for those of you who DO have a reason to wear them!

Quick caveat to this round-up: obviously every workplace is different, and dresscodes are going to vary wildly depending on your role and company. These dresses won’t work for everyone, but they’re the kind of thing I’d personally have worn to work, back in my office-worker days!

Even if you’re not a fan of retro-inspired styles in general, retro-repo brands can be a great source of dresses to wear to work, because their pieces are typically longer-length, and in the kind of style that will easily translate to the workplace. This dogtooth pencil dress, for instance, has a fairly contemporary look to it, but it’s not too short or tight, which makes it suitable for the office. The three-quarter length sleeves will also help keep your arms warm if your office likes to crank up the aircon!

  • Yes, please, more of this post. The pencil dresses are absolutely my ‘uniforms’. It’s an important part of my job to dress appropriately, and you’ve just helped me ticking a ‘task’.
