Why makeup?

Makeup has been around for centuries. The earliest records of makeup use date back to around 3000 BC when Egyptians used natural products such as soot to create their signature look. Most people will say that makeup makes women look healthier and more attractive. There are many reasons why people wear makeup.

Foundation helps make the skin appear smooth and even. It gives a strong impression of health and symmetry – foundation is widely recognized as enhancing beauty. Foundation is known as the cosmetic that makes the most difference in female attractiveness.

Makeup makes you look healthier. Cosmetics help women feel healthier, more confident, and even having greater earning potential than the same women wearing no makeup. This says that makeup has a potentially useful role in strategic self-presentation.

Although it has a lot of pluses, makeup can also be harmful to the skin. Makeup available at the drugstore can contain a lot of dangerous ingredients that can damage the quality of skin. This is why it’s always important to check the ingredients of products.

What to avoid

Not all cosmetics are bad for you, but a lot are harmful. Your skin should be treated with care and respect. Here are some ingredients to avoid when buying products:

  • Heavy metals– chrome and nickel are two heavy metals found in different types of makeup, especially green or metallic colours. They are neurotoxins that can be linked to brain damage and lung cancer.
  • BAK- a preservative found in mascara and eye products that can be toxic to the epithelial cells of the eyes. This is a bad word that doesn’t have the most way of being in the way.
  • Retinyl acetate- a form of vitamin A that has been linked to reproductive toxicity and cancer.
  • Ethanolamine compounds– these contain chemicals called nitrosamines that can potentially cause cancer. Avoid the letters TEA, MEA and DEA.
  • Carbon black– a powder that can be found in eye products. It’s been linked to cancer and organ system toxicity and is typically shown on the label as acetylene black, carbon black and channel black.
  • Parabens– preservatives that are used to prevent the growth of bacteria in makeup products. Once the skin absorbs them and are transmitted into the bloodstream, they can cause early puberty and breast cancer.
  • Titanium dioxide– this ingredient is only safe when it’s in powder form. It can be found as TiO2.
