Kate Spade ‘Black Tie’ pumps, £393.40
When the invitation says “black tie”, but you don’t have a dress appropriate to the occasion, these shoes could make a nice, tongue-in-cheek solution to your problem. All dressed up for dinner, in their bow tie and collar, these Kate Spade pumps bring a whole new meaning to the phrase “dress shoe”. Yes, they’re almost too twee for words, but keep the rest of your look simple (It may be boring, but I think these are crying out to be worn with a classic black sheath dress, and maybe a string of pearls…), and they’ll add a whimsical touch to your formal attire, and they’ll also be a nice ice-breaker/conversation starter too – if you don’t mind answering questions and comments about your shoes all night, obviously. (I’m guessing that as a reader of this site, you’re probably used to that already, huh?)
These have a heel height of just over 4″, and fasten via a zip at the back of the heel. They’ll definitely be crossing the line into “novelty shoe” for some – I think the sequinned bow and rhinestone-studded collar makes them look almost like toy shoes, or a shoe ornament, and hey, I guess you could always put them out on display to help justify the cost! As for that, these are £393 at Nordstrom, where they’re currently available in US sizes 6.5 – 10.
What do you think of these: are they too cutesy for your taste, or just the thing to give a touch of fun to a formal, black-tie gown?
I didn’t think I would ever find a simple black sandal with a bow that I didn’t like, but these aren’t working for me. They have definitely crossed over to novelty shoe territory, & my worry is that in such formal black satin & white crystals, one could easily mistake them for appropriate shoes to wear at a formal event…..!
For some reason I can’t pin down I really like them.
I don’t hate them, I get the idea of them, but I wouldn’t wear them.
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!
