Friday Fix: Christian Louboutin Au Palace Crystal-Heel Satin Sandals

Christian Louboutin Au Palace

“Extraordinary events require extraordinary footwear,” says the Bergdorf Goodman website. Well, I think these certainly qualify, as “extraordinary”, but whether in a good or bad way is, of course, up to you to decide.

Without the heel, of course, I wouldn’t even have given these a second look: the upper is a simple, black, strappy sandal, in a style that I always think of as “The Jennifer Aniston”. (Because she always wears shoes like that, I hasten to add, not because I think she, herself, looks like a shoe. Just thought I better clear that up.)

But then there’s the heel. Covering the red of the sole with crystals, and then backing it up with silver on the other side would’ve been enough to make these a bit different, but it’s the width of the heel that really makes it stand out. It’s also what makes it $1895. You just know that when the red sole is covered in crystals, it’s REALLY not going to be cheap, don’t you?

  • I actually find these really unattractive. The heel vs straps proportion is all off. They remind me of those chunky heels from the late 90’s. I like what they’re going for with crystals, but I would have preferred it on either an overall chunkier sandal, a la YSL Tribute, on a stiletto heel with this one. Otherwise the whole thing looks pretty hideous to me.

  • Ye gods! They had such a nice thing going, and then they went and fouled it up. On a skinnier heel (something NOT remniscent of a time where grunge and hypercolor were popular, thankyouverymuch), that would’ve worked gorgeously. That heel that’s half a step away from being the heels on the goth boots in HS.

  • I have to disagree with everyone so far. I love this shoe. I find the heel a new twist to the chunky heels that are out now. The back side is rounded and so I think the whole shoe still has a delicate feel, but is kid of bad-ass. If I had a spare $2000 sitting around I’d buy them in a heart beat!

  • Zara had very similar ones, a few months back. With crystal chunky heels and all. And I think that they were more beautiful and a lot more easier to wear. These ones have really thin straps, which make them seem really uncomfortable to walk in.
