As a fan of all things polka dot – but especially shoes – I was initially a little torn when I first saw Charlotte Olympia’s ‘Bacall’ pumps: yes, I (predictably) love the print, but mesh uppers are never going to be my favourite – I just hate the idea of having my bare feet on show, even when I’m wearing shoes, so I was pleased to see that, on closer inspection, these actually have covered sections on the toe and heel, to prevent that happening. The rest of the foot will still be exposed, obviously, but not quite so much of it as I’d suspected at first glance, so I might just be able to live with it. (In the alternative universe in which I can actually afford to buy Charlotte Olympia shoes, I mean…)

These are a classic court-shoe shape, with a pointed toe and 3.5″ stiletto heel, which will probably feel low to those of you used to walking on 5″ heels every day, but which is a really good height for a stiletto, and not too hard to walk in. The mesh upper, meanwhile, turns them into the ultimate in “nude” shoes, and while I’d STILL like them better if the upper was leather, rather than mesh (I know it might not be as unusual, or fashion-forward, but, well, neither am I, really, so I can’t complain…), it’s definitely an interesting effect.

The polka dot design, meanwhile, looks a little more contemporary on this shoe than on some others I could mention. I always tend to associate polka dots with a pin-up inspired look (Not that there’s anything wrong with that, obviously!), but although these ones could definitely work as part of a retro-style outfit, they’ll work just as well with something more modern or casual, too.
