Shoeper Shopping | May 2014 Wish List

may wish list

Way back in 2011, I posted a Shoeper Shopping List, featuring some of the products I most wanted to buy that month. Bizarrely, that post is still one of the most popular posts on the site, so I figured it was high time I updated it!

(Also, I find these posts really interesting to look back on: they provide an interesting snapshot of my style in that particular month – or at least they would do if it wasn’t for the fact that I was apparently lusting after full, 50s-style skirts back in August 2011, too. Some things never change!)

I don’t have a set budget for clothes every month, so what I spend varies from month to month, and depends on what else I have to spend my money on at that particular time. This month is going to be a particularly lean one, clothing-wise (Mostly because all of my beauty products have chosen to run out at the same time, and are going to need replacing: gah!), which is a shame, because there are just SO MANY THINGS I want to buy. The current trend for 50s style skirts and dresses, for instance, means that there are tons of things I really love in the stores: that’s not always the case, so it’s hard to resist snapping up all of those amazing dresses while I have the chance!

Resist I must, though, so this is a “Wish List” in the truest sense of that phrase, although a couple of these items did make it into my shopping bag. The scenic print midi skirt (04), for instance, proved impossible to resist, and is on its way to me as I write this. The Dorothy Perkins rose-print dress (02), meanwhile, has been in and out of my shopping bag a few times now. I think the print would look good with my Ted Baker ‘Keanah’ pumps (or with flats and a denim jacket for a more casual look), but I suspect it might be a little too high on the waist for me (I have a long torso, so this is a common problem, but particularly with Dorothy Perkins, who seem to cut their waists very high for some reason…), hence the indecision.

As for the rest of the items on the list…

01. Dorothy Perkins ivory rose-print dress, £25,50

02. Laura Ashley map-print dress, £59.50

This dress has been on my wish list for a while now. It’s the perfect shape and length, and I adore the quirky print. Just to make it even more tempting, it’s been reduced to £59.50 from the original £85, which means the chances of it still being in stock when I have the spare cash to justify buying it are slim to none!

03. Boden Holland Park coat, £149

A coat may seem like a strange thing to include on a Spring wish list, but it’s so often cold here that a lightweight coat can be a really good investment. This one is a true statement piece, which I’d have for years: again, here’s hoping it’s still in stock in a few weeks’ time!

04. ChicWish ‘Turn Back TIme’ scenic print skirt, $49

05. River Island black bardot top, £16.

I’ve just included one bardot top on this list, but I actually ordered a few of them from ASOS this week. I’ve been living in tops like this recently, and as I mentioned on Forever Amber, I love the fact that they’re such a basic piece, which add a bit of glamour to whatever you wear with them. You can expect to see a lot more of this style in my Shoe Challenge roundup posts: you have been warned!

06. Fever London ‘Mariel’ cropped cardigan, £39.99

I wrote about my reliance on cropped cardigans yesterday, and I really love this lemon one by Fever London. I realised last week that a yellow cardigan would be the perfect item to finish off a few outfits I have planned, and although I do have one in this colour, it’s a very loose-fitting one, which doesn’t look right with dresses. This one, on the other hand, would be perfect – and putting together this image made me realise it would ALSO be perfect with the scenic-print skirt. Now I HAVE to have it, don’t I?

This is a much smaller Wish List than usual for me. As I mentioned, there are dozens of things I love at the moment, but this year I promised myself to try to stock up on some badly-needed basics rather than splurging on too  many dressier items, hence the cardigan and tops. Of course, I HAVE still been buying some dressier items, too – I wouldn’t be me if I ignored all those dresses and skirts completely! – but I’m doing my best to concentrate on filling some of the gaps in my wardrobe before I allow myself yet another dress.

What’s on your wish list this month?

  • Oh I love that skirt and can’t wait to see you wear it, it is absolutely stunning to look at. I’m excited to see what you pair it with (..top number 5? 🙂 But wait, no shoes on the list? Gasp!

Sorry to hear about your make-up products running out at the same time, but speaking of make-up, I’d love to see a make-up post on here. I miss your old blog (Hello Dollface) – are you thinking of adding make-up posts here as well as clothes ones?
