As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’m an old-fashioned girl at heart when it comes to footwear. I have a couple of simple preferences I like to abide by. One, for instance, is that boots should not have peep toes. They don’t need them. Another is that sandals should not resemble boots, and reach all the way up your calf. That’s what boots are for.
All of that said, I’m a contrary creature, too, and I rather like the look of these. The LOOK of them, I said. I wouldn’t actually BUY them, obviously, but I’ve always been a sucker for bright red with white buttons, and if I could cut these off at the ankle, I’d probably love them.
What do you think of them?
(They’re £590 at Net-a-Porter. Click here to buy them.)
I see what you mean actually, if it had a slingback instead of the weird calf arrangement they’d almost look nice. Almost.
…Wow. I’ve been translating til 7 in the morning, and even English kind of looks like meaningless squiggles to me now. But then I saw these shoes, and my eyes slowly widened all the way open! I’m loving the combination of shiny waxy red leather, curvy cutouts and huge flat white buttons. I think it’s very playful and it works, and if I were the type to drop 600 pounds on shoes I would buy them! Now off to bed for me…
I have had a good look and really don’t like them, lovely leather/color but way too silly for me.
I think you’re right. Without the ankle part they’d be great!
Sorry to disappoint but, I think the buttons are actually silver, if you look at some of the other pictures you can see them reflecting different colours (well black). Also, the description calls them “designer-stamped silver discs.”
I did like them better when I thought the buttons were white though.
I totally agree. If you cover up the weird calf part, they do look pretty nice.
I think they’re quite awesome: painting a swirly band of colour up the calf without being a full boot. For those “this is me being arty” days!
